Hey, I’m Patrick!
When I was a child, I remember looking out of the car window at all the cars and their occupants all going about their day, all with a destination in mind, perhaps they were going to see family, maybe friends, or maybe just a day out. What fascinated me at that young age was that each and every one of them had their own lives. They had friends, they had family, they had jobs, they had their own stresses, they had their own thoughts.
My interest in other people’s lives wasn’t just me being nosey, although it could easily be perceived this way! My interest in other people’s lives continues to this day and by this, I do not mean that I watch the Kardashians… I recognise that every one of us lives a life that is totally unique and we all have a story to tell. Being British we tend to shrug off the question as talking about oneself could be perceived as being conceited, however, in the USA, it is a normal question to ask – “So, what’s your story?”.
My early years observing and thinking, led me to study documentary photography which gave me the skills and tools to tell a story through my photos. My passion lies in meeting people and learning about them no matter what walk of life they are on. I want to influence that moment as little as possible, simply being an observer rather than a partaker, this, in my opinion, makes for the most genuine fragments of time, preserved in a photo.
I now live with my family in a remote spot on Exmoor in Somerset. I have been fortunate to travel to many beautiful locations and meet people from all walks of life, from the homeless to some of the world’s wealthiest. My time spent with others has confirmed that it’s not what we have, but who we are that is important, and that is what I love to capture. My passion for wedding photography stems from my interest in others and the positivity, love and joy of weddings. Being granted access to such a private and significant event is a huge honour and not one which I do not take lightly.
When I’m not photographing, I am spending time with my family, walking my dog or kiteboarding.
Now it’s your turn! Tell me your story…
